Reflecting on the Woman Who Inspired It All

Growing up as a child, I always witnessed my mom in her kitchen preparing a variety of dishes to feed her family and friends. My mom, Camella, would rise up early in the morning, and would start preparing fresh food every day – for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don’t know where she got the energy from to do all that cooking, and to attend to her other chores as well. But I do know that I was fascinated by the different culinary dishes she prepared. In addition to cooked food, she made baked goods, pastries and more.

She also did street vending, and sold her goods at the market. Often, she would walk to the market with her basket of goodies and sell them until her basket was empty. Soon after starting to sell at the market, customers began to crave her goods and her sales picked up. People liked her so much, they unofficially dubbed her “Pone Lady” or “Pastry Lady.” I soon became part of her team and helped her to prepare the goods that were sold at the market.

Camella is no longer with us today, but her spirit still lives on. We created Camella’s Kitchen to build upon the values and traditions learned while in Camella’s kitchen. We want to continue the legacy of Camella and bring the same warmth, love and generosity that she had when making her own goods. And that’s what Camella’s Kitchen is about – in addition to awing your taste buds, we want to inspire love and kindness in all.

We dedicate this business to Camella and may it be a blessing to all who encounter it.

With love,

Karen
