You Can Now Find Us in Thamee's BIPOC Pantry

If you're in the DC metro area, you can now catch us at Thamee. The restaurant, whose name translates from Burmese to “daughter,” was founded by a mother and daughter team in order to share elevated home style Burmese meals with the community. They quickly rose to wide acclaim. However, with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, they were forced to pivot their operations. Recognizing that so many Black and brown businesses faced a double whammy due to the pandemic, Thamee created a few initiatives to help bolster support and much needed resources for those unduly impacted. One of those initiatives is the BIPOC Pantry. As the name implies, the Pantry is stocked with goods created by Black, Indigenous, and people of color makers.

To facilitate ease with ordering from the Pantry, consumers can go online to order from a variety of goods that include everything from hot sauces, to spices, to beer, wine, coffee, and tea. The goods will then be available for pickup on select days (Fridays – Sundays). We’re excited to add our Spicy Mango Chutney to the mix. Our chutney is handcrafted in small batches using real mangos. It also packs a punch, as the spicy part implies, so a little can go a long way. Our chutney is very versatile and can be used with vegetables, meats, and seafood. It’s also a great addition to rice and bean dishes. For ideas on how to use the chutney, be sure to take a look at our recipes. We’re constantly adding new recipes to the mix, so more ideas to follow. Be sure to also check out this guide for using pepper sauces from Feed the Malik. Chutneys can also be used in the same way. If you consider yourself to be a hot sauce connoisseur, you may also want to check out Thamee’s Hot Box. This box if filled with a selection of the staff’s favorite hot sauces from the pantry. Our chutney will be a part of the box.

As a mother and daughter duo, immigrants, and women of color, we are glad to collaborate with Thamee on this initiative to ensure that the stories of Black and brown peoples are told in an effort to leave a long-lasting legacy. Our partnership with Thamee will allow us to expand our access and reach during these times when our ability to go out in the community is limited due to the coronavirus pandemic. By purchasing our flavors, you not only support us, but you also help us to reinvest our money back into the local community. We are committed to sourcing from local farmers as much as possible. This allows us to get quality ingredients, which we then use to create our sauces, marinades, and more. Our sauces are handcrafted with intention and love. So, from our kitchen, we hope to send you a little bit of the Caribbean to enjoy 🌞
